God is Love

You love your family. They mean everything to you. That’s what life is all about. Relationships. You enjoy a close knit family environment, stability, and making beautiful and meaningful memories. Every day you make decisions based on what’s best for your family.

Recently you can't seem to shake off this feeling of being stressed out. You already start the day tired from broken sleep but you do your best to get through, supplying all the needs of your children while your other half is at work. Despite the long hours at home with the kids you do feel somewhat lonely for lack of adult company. When you get the time you talk to your parents long distance but it's just not the same since you moved house. Things will get better when some of the debts are paid off but until then it all seems quite challenging.

Overall you push on despite exhaustion, and wish you had more support. You also can't fit everything into one day although you would like to. It would be awesome if you had some “me” time to just chill and read a good book or re-energise yourself with something that's missing in your life. Trouble is you just don't know yet what that “something” actually is.

Your feelings are valid and they are real. You do need more support. It is not easy raising children and there’s a lot of conflicting information out there which can confuse and put doubts in your mind. Even the most well supported people struggle at times with doubts and fears. We all appreciate reassurance that we’re doing a good job and you are, even though you feel like you are “just holding your head above water”.

Did you know that these feelings are the opposite of God’s plan for you? That’s right! You might be thinking how can God help when you need an extra pair of hands right now or a friend to talk to over coffee -- someone who can just drop by because you are tied up with responsibilities?

Our physical responsibilities are important but the spiritual part of our lives even moreso. Transitioning into the life God wants for us can be done if we follow His instructions. The 10 commandments are found in Exodus 20:1-17 and Deuteronomy 30:15-16. Why should we keep His commandments? Jesus Christ tells us “If you love Me, keep My commandments” (John 14:15).

To be successful you need to ask God for help. Talk to Him with an open heart about all your disappointments, challenges, desires, struggles, and your triumphs! God will listen to it all and you may be surprised how well He listens! God tells us in Matthew 11:28-30 “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light”.

Before I followed Christ I thought I knew all about love. My family came first and I promoted harmony at home. However since keeping the 10 commandments I am truly learning about unconditional love -- the type of love God gives to us. John 3:16.

Instead of trying “to do it all” on our own strength, it is so much better to rely on God. Further study on God’s love drew me to scriptures in 1 John 4:18-19, John 15:9-17 and 1 Corinthians 13.

How will you respond to Christ’s words “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you” (Matthew 6:33)?
